Bridlington holidays aren’t complete if you don’t visit Bridlington Old Town, especially if you want an antidote to the hustle and bustle of modern beach towns. The star location of the 2016 Dad’s Army film, Bridlington Old Town is an enchanting slice of Yorkshire just over a mile away from the sea and main town centre. Filled with charming architecture and cultural history as well as modern shops and fashionable galleries, you’d be sure to miss out if you don’t pay it a visit.

Whilst visiting, why not follow ‘The Old Town Trail’. This route will take you around the Old Town, which was once the heart of the town. Whilst on the trail you can take in The Bridlington Priory Church, which has links to Henry V after his victory at Agincourt and is a popular historical site.

As you continue to follow the trail, you can also visit The Bridlington Bayle Museum. Fun for all the family, the museum is a Grade 1 Listed scheduled monument and contains more information on the history of the town.

If you need some refreshment, the Museum is opposite the historical Bull & Sun Inn or another popular place in the Old Town is The Lamp Restaurant. You dine in a Grade II listed Victorian building, which is named for the original Victorian gas lamp in the courtyard. Alternatively, there are many takeaway options and cafes to please the whole family or you can indulge in an afternoon tea in an old fashioned tea room. There is plenty of choice in Old Bridlington.

What is most unique about Bridlington Old Town is the shopping. Unlike most high streets, which are filled with chain stores, Bridlington Old Town’s charm remains intact. If you like a little bit of retail therapy you can have tea and cakes in its Tea rooms, visit antique shops, a 40’s Memorabilia shop, fashion stores or stroll through the several art galleries, which have taken up residence in this scenic area.

Discover a new Bridlington, away from the stereotypical Bridlington holidays. Don’t miss out on this picturesque hidden old-town treasure – and don’t forget to book your stay with Bridlington Holiday Cottages.
